The “Restrict” option blocks sound playback when video is automatically started, and if “Block” is selected, automatic video playback will be prohibited, until the user manually starts the media content. This change should improve the reliability of the mobile network connection (LTE) for computers with support for mobile networks: using the built-in network interface or USB modem. Go to Settings> Network and Internet> Use data to view the amount of roaming traffic.
Hidden borders of windows in Acrylic style. Microsoft has changed the display of the border of windows in Windows 10. Instead of colored borders, you will see reduced gray borders, which effectively disappear in the shadow of each window. However, users can re-enable the colored borders of the windows if they want more paint. Visual changes to the operating system interface are carried out within the framework of the “Fluent Design” graphical concept, which is gradually being introduced in Windows 10, starting with Fall Creators Update. In version 1809, you will see more elements of the system in the Acrylic style, in particular in the Windows Security application, in the timeline and in the “Sets” tabs panel.
The Mail application will ignore the default browser. Microsoft is testing a change that will force the Mail app to open links in Microsoft Edge, regardless of the default browser. This is part of the overall trend for ubiquitous Edge integration in Windows. For example, links that you click on in search suggestions on the start screen always open in Edge. You can use third-party software to circumvent the limitations of Microsoft.
Windows Defender becomes a Windows Security application. The Windows Defender Security Center has been renamed Windows Security. In the section “Protection against viruses and threats” a new section “Current threats” has appeared, which shows all potentially dangerous objects that require some action. In Windows Security> Virus and Threat Protection> Virus and Threat Protection Settings, the user can enable the “Block Suspicious Actions” option, which activates protection against attacks and exploits using Windows Defender Exploit Guard.

In Redstone 5, Microsoft improved this behavior and made it possible for all users to install fonts. Just right-click on the font file and select “Install” to install the font for the current user only or “Install for all users” for global font installation for the entire system. Only in the second case you will need administrator rights.

In the Task Manager, on the “Processes” tab, two new columns have appeared that show an estimate of the energy consumption of individual applications and processes, taking into account the load on the processor, graphics subsystem and disks. The “Power Consumption” column shows the instantaneous value of energy consumption by applications and services, and the “Power Consumption Trend” column shows the average consumption over 2 minutes. The user is available to sort by these columns to identify the most energy-intensive processes in the system.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) allows you to increase text size throughout the system (start menu, explorer, options, etc.) and in UWP and win32 applications without changing the system scaling level. To set the font size, go to Settings> Accessibility> Display and use the scroll bar “Increase the size of all elements”.
Windows will predict the best time to reboot. Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) will now use machine learning technology to prevent the computer from restarting when you use the system. Earlier versions of Windows 10 also did not restart to complete the installation of the update if you used a computer. However, it was necessary to leave for a cup of coffee, as Windows could consider that you finished the session and caused the system to restart. Now, machine learning technologies are used to predict the correct reboot time. Windows 10 will be able to detect when you are actively using a PC. In other words, the system will be able to predict whether you left the workplace for a couple of minutes or really finished the work. This is a very useful feature, but you can prevent the PC from rebooting using the Active Watch feature. This feature allows you to adjust the active working hours interval to 18 hours per day. Windows will try to restart the PC at another time, not at this time. However, even the rest of the time, Windows 10 will more intelligently choose the time to reboot.

In Redstone 5, Microsoft listened to users and decided to add a long-awaited feature to Bash — support for hotkeys copy and paste. Right-click on the window title bar and select “Properties” to select the option that enables the Ctrl + Shift + C and Ctrl + Shift + V hotkeys for copying and pasting, respectively.
